A unique Golfing Activity to Honour India’s COVID WARRIORS, conducted by The
DELHI GOLF CLUB receives tremendous response.

Aug 2020. Delhi: There were
a few emotional moments on the course when Covid
Warriors were honoured with medals around their necks while playing their
rounds during the “Saluting
India’s Covid Warriors” golf activity promoted and hosted by The Delhi Golf Club (DGC) in
association with Mawana Sugars and Sanitize 99.9%.
The 2 days golf activity played on the 21st and 22nd of
Aug was hosted with an objective to honour the valour and yeomen service to the
nation by COVID Warriors during the pandemic saw 30 Covid
Warriors receiving medals on the course by the DGC management and also by the
Chief Guest Meenakshi Lekhi
during the prize distribution. And the moments were emotional because while
these brave warriors did what they did, they did not ask for nor expect this recognition,
but many a teary eye was noticed.
After 2 days
of torrential rain, bright sunshine greeted the 300 golfers who participated in
this unique activity. And while the ethos of the activity was sentimental, the
competition was severe and some great golf was witnessed. The scoring of the
activity was based on an Individual Stableford
format where a player gets points for her/his performance based on 75% of their
original handicaps. On Day 1 Bikram Singh (-3) fired a round of 76 to score 34 pts and win the prize for the best score in the 0-12
handicap category. Anil Kohli (-24) played well to
win with a score of 37 points in the 13-24 handicap category.
In the juniors
section, former World Junior champion and 15 year old Shubham
Jaglan (+1)
fired a (3 under) 69 to win the
best junior prize in the age category above 15 years. 10 Yrs old Armin Paul Singh (-9) won the prize for best junior
in the age category Under 11 years with 29 pts while
14 yrs old Savdeep Kadian was the best junior in the category above 11 and
under 15 yrs of age.
The Super
Seniors also saw some exceptional performances with PK Bapna
winning with a score of 25 pts in the age category
Below 85 and above 70 years, while LL Malhotra with a score of 21 pts was the winner in the category above 85 years of age.
Day 2 also
saw some exceptional golf when former professional golfer Vivek
Bhandari(-1)
turned back the clock to shoot a 2 under 70 and won the prize for the best
score in the 0-12 handicap category with a score of 39 pts. Dr Alkesh Chowdhury (-18) played
exceptionally well to score 44 points and won the prize for the best score in
the 13-24 handicap category.
The quality
scoring also highlighted the quality conditions of the Delhi Golf Club’s main course
which came in for praise from all those covid
warriors who came to play from other clubs in the NCR region. The activity,
managed by Digraj Golf Inc,
also had some interesting skill based prizes and the list of winners is
appended below.
Several generous sponsors came forth to support this activity and
the lead was taken by Mr Siddharth Shriram of Mawana Sugars who
anchored the event with his commitment to be an Associate Sponsor. Other

Optimum Nutrition and Just in time Fashions. And very hearteningly, Delhi Langar Seva served langar for the caddies for both days of the activity.
During the Prize
Presentation in which Ms Meenakshi Lekhi honoured the Covid Warriors
and also gave away prizes to some of the winners, she also shared some inspiring
stories of efforts made by various individuals who came together for the
service of humanity during this pandemic. “It was wonderful to see youngsters
from all quarters come forth and offer a lending hand for the various
requirements which were posed by the pandemic” she added. “People worked around
the clock and I am grateful for their efforts” she added.
Joining her in giving
away the prizes were Mr Amar Sinha of Radico Khaitan, Mr Vikash Gupta of 360, Mr Rishi Goyle of HDFC Bank and the President of the Club Mr RS Bedi. Speaking at the Prize Distribution the President
shared the ethos behind the event and said that “as a premiere sporting
organisation, we felt it was important for us to acknowledge and honour these
brave warriors who have do so much for humanity”
The Highlight of the
Prize Presentation was the cheque of Rs 25,01,001 which was presented to Ms Meenakshi Lekhi for the “PM CARES Fund from the Funds
Generated through generous contributions from The Delhi Golf Club members.
